Why hire a grant writer?
Most organizations are able to write their own grants. However many lack the time to research funding sources, find a viable grant request and then complete the application on time. Often, critical grant submissions end up as last minute projects on the backs of already overworked staff.
I’d love to hire a grant writer, but how do I sell it to my boss/Board of Directors?
Just because someone has written a grant in the past doesn’t mean it is the most effective use of his or her time. We’d be happy to submit a proposal to your management detailing the cost effective and personnel-saving benefits of using our services.
What is wrong with getting a grant to fund work my organization is already doing?
Nothing! So many organizations are under-funded these days that grants sometimes provide support just to keep the doors open. However, grants can offer a great opportunity for an organization to think creatively, reexamine processes and provide new and more effective services to the community.
Do you work on a contingent fee basis?
Unfortunately we do not write grants contingent on the funds being awarded or for a percentage of the funds received. For one, such practices are often disallowed by funding organizations. Moreover, grant awards depend on many factors, including geography, politics, attitude of the reviewers and number of applications received. Generally, the more high quality proposals you submit, the larger the number of grants you receive. And a completed grant, even if not funded, can be valuable when preparing future submissions.
